Lincoln-Douglas Debate is different from CX Debate in that it is one-on-one opposition, rather than one team against another.  The focus of L-D debate is values-clash.  The topics may be political or economic, but the debater must analyze the values behind the topic.   Typical values debated might include justice, equality, fairness, life, quality of life, ect.  The case must be structured so that the debater can prove that his value is the best one to uphold or negate the resolution.  Debaters must be able to put aside their personal feelings about the topic and be able to argue equally well in both the affirmative and negative position.  A typical debate will last about 45 minutes, and the judge will determine the winner based on how well each case is organized and presented, and the quality of the arguments and clash.  LD Debate is excellent training for anyone who wants to become a lawyer, or for anyone who wants to improve his/her thinking and speaking skills.
